The NDA Research Lab fuels the NDA’s concert programmes, multidisciplinary projects and CD recordings.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activities of the NDA Research Lab aim to give new insights into 18th<\/sup> century music through re-discovering, re-evaluating and re-introducing lost, forgotten or ignored repertoire. And through taking fresh looks at historical performance practices, musical aesthetics, instruments and instrumentation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We research into the birth and formation of the symphony and symphony orchestra at the court in Mannheim in the middle of the 18th<\/sup> century (as part of the NDA’s Mannheim Project) and the symphony in Holland in the 18th<\/sup> century (as part of the NDA’s Dutch Music Project).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NDA’s research has resulted in the realisation of, amongst other things:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Modern day world-premiere<\/strong> concert performances of symphonic works by 18th<\/sup> century composers (including) Stamitz, Richter, Holzbauer, Schmitt, Zappa, Graaf, Colizzi, Spangenberg and Schwindl<\/span><\/li>
  • Radio, TV and Internet broadcasts<\/strong> of live peformances of new(ly discovered) repertoire<\/span><\/li>
  • Innovative concert programmes<\/strong> with new repertoire and new perspectives<\/span><\/li>
  • The first ever CD of symphonies and chamber music by “The Dutch Haydn” Joseph Schmitt<\/span><\/li>
  • The first ever CD<\/strong> documenting the symphony at the 18th <\/sup>century Court of Orange in The Hague<\/span><\/li>
  • World Premiere CD<\/strong> recordings of symphonies by Zappa, Graaf, Schwindl, C Stamit<\/span>z, Abel and Reichardt<\/li>
  • World Premiere CD<\/strong> recordings of symphonies from the Mannheimer Schule by Stamitz and Richter<\/span><\/li>
  • Modern scholarly performance edition<\/strong>s of previously unavailable symphonic and chamber music<\/span><\/li>
  • The successful reconstruction<\/strong> of Bach’s own Cello – the Violoncello Piccolo<\/span><\/li>
  • Documentaries<\/strong> disseminating the findings of the Research Lab<\/span><\/li>
  • Contributions to Scholarly Conferences and Publications <\/strong>on 18th<\/sup> century Art, Music, Society\u00a0and Aesthetics<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
